Based in Quincy, Illinois, Garth Baecker began his career in sales at Brinkmanship Oldsmobile Cadillac, following three years as an English and journalism instructor at Roosevelt Military Academy in Aledo. His position at Brinkmanship Oldsmobile Cadillac involved selling cars, managing inventory, ordering new products, and floor-planning. Garth Baecker joined Country Financial and Insurance Company as a sales representative and special agent in 1973. He served in this position until 2010, during which time he managed an extensive product line of financial, commercial, and agriculture insurance products along with mutual funds and health and life insurance.

Garth Baecker achieved the chartered financial advisor designation from the Life Insurance Institute in Bloomington. He studied English at Western Illinois University, earning a master of arts. During his time at the university, he served as the manager of the university union and contributed to the Western Courier student newspaper as both a writer and assistant editor. He is a fan of jazz and in 2007 produced The BaeckerJazz Worship Service with the Chicago Recording Company. He subsequently toured the record with a 17-piece jazz orchestra throughout the Midwest.
